I Am Sure Of This

In his farewell sermon to the Lake Placid Baptist Church family, Pastor Derek Spain shares from the heart and echoes the words of the apostle Paul from Philippians 1:3-11. Paul was writing to a group of people he loved dearly, people who had been changed by the power of Jesus Christ. Pastor Derek has been the pastor of a group of people just like that. Our hope is in the LORD. I Am Sure of This. Listen here: http://www.lpbaptist.org/IAmSureOfThis.mp3

I Will Build My Church

Pastor Derek and his wife stood literally 30 feet away from the Gates of Hell. No, it wasn't a dream or a vision. It was reality. They were in Israel, at Caesarea Philippi, at the same spot that Jesus took His disciples in the first century to ask them a most important question: "Who do you say that I am??" It was here that Jesus told His disciples (and us!) upon what truth He would build His church. When we consider Jesus' two questions to the disciples on that day, and the responses by the disciples, we realize that each of us must answer that question for ourselves. Because we are constantly being attacked spiritually by the forces of hell - the temptations, deception, division and much, much more. When Jesus talks about building His church, He is talking about building it one person at a time. Will you let Him work in you to overcome everything that hell throws against you? Matthew 16:13-20. I Will Build My Church. http://www.lpbaptist.org/IWillBuildMyChurch.mp3

The Son's Prayer to the Father

When Jesus prayed to His Heavenly Father on the night before He was betrayed, He prayed for Himself, for His disciples, and for all of those who would believe in Him (including us!). His prayer serves as a model for us. Four specific things He prayed were:

  • "Father, glorify Your Son"
  • "Father, protect your children"
  • "Father, unify your children"
  • "Father, show them your love"
Jesus' prayer teaches us how to pray. In this message, The Son's Prayer to the Father, Pastor Derek is joined by Jeff Gray and Bob Appleton to discuss the life-changing truths of John 17. These truths help us to see deeply into the powerful, strong, loving heart of our Savior. http://www.lpbaptist.org/TheSonsPrayerToTheFather.mp3

Restoration

God is in the business of restoration. He is the one we look to when things need to be put back together. So what do we do when people wander away from the Lord? And what about those who are not even believers in Christ? Do we reject them, put up walls between us and them, judge them, and write them off? Or, do we lovingly reach out to them to help restore their relationship with God and His people? The answer seems obvious. God's Word shows you how. James 5:19-20. Restoration. It Won't Last Forever

When times get tough, it seems that the difficult days will never end. Remember: suffering won't last forever. When times are luxurious, and at seems that the things of the world will always last, remember this: stuff won't last forever. In this message from James 4:1-11, It Won't Last Forever, God's Word helps you to examine yourself, your motives, and your focus to see if you are living life with an eternal perspective. Because things of this world are passing away. As it says in the gospels (KJV), "this too shall pass." http://lpbaptist.org/ItWontLastForever.mp3

Always Talking About Tomorrow...

Some people have a tendency to boast and brag about all the great things that they KNOW they are going to do in the future. Their arrogance and presumption can cause them to actually miss God's will. The Bible gives us guidance on how to keep the right attitude and to live a life that is submitted to God's will, which is the best place to be. Always Talking About Tomorrow... On a Journey with the LORD

Life is a journey. As a follower of Christ, we are on a lifelong journey with the LORD. In Proverbs 16:9, we read: "A man's heart plans his way, but the LORD determines his steps." How do we make sure our heart is in line with the LORD's heart? And, how does God sovereignly determine our steps, and also speak to us so that we know which way to go? The Good News about Jesus and the Resurrection

When the apostle Paul stood on the hill in Athens to proclaim the good news of Jesus, he was speaking to people with a variety of worldviews. He shocked them when he spoke of Jesus' resurrection. Some ridiculed his words and dismissed him. Some were curious and wanted to hear more. Some believed in Christ and trusted in Jesus as Lord & Savior. How would you respond to Paul's message? How would people you know respond? The Good News about Jesus and the Resurrection. Acts 17:16-34. http://www.lpbaptist.org/TheGoodNewsAboutJesusAndTheResurrection.mp3

Partners in the Gospel

We can partner with people on a lot of things: business ventures, vacations, friendships, sports, hobbies, family situations, and much, much more. But the one thing the apostle Paul was most thankful for when he wrote a letter to the Philippians was their partnership with him in spreading the good news of Jesus Christ. And we can be thankful too for the Partners in the Gospel that we have - churches and Christians around the world who are working like us to tell people the good news of Jesus Christ. In this message, from Philippians 1:1-5, you will see how God is using each of us to encourage others to take the good news of Jesus to people who so desperately need Him. http://www.lpbaptist.org/PartnersInTheGospel.mp3

Praying For Their Salvation

We all have people we care about, people for whom we are praying. Some of these people are experiencing health problems, financial crises, family challenges, and more. Some people that we are praying for need to be saved. They have not yet trusted in Jesus Christ as their Lord and Savior. They need faith in Him. In this message, Praying For Their Salvation, from Romans 10:1, you will learn from the example of a first-century follower of Christ about his burden to pray for those he cared deeply about, and how we can learn from him. And by the way - that guy was used by God to help change the world! http://www.lpbaptist.org/PrayingForTheirSalvation.mp3

Is That Wise?

You can get advice or "wisdom" from a lot of places: friends, family, media, your own experience, and many other places. How do you know if wisdom that you receive is actually wise? The Bible tells us that there is wisdom-from-above and wisdom-from-below. In this message, you will hear two indicators about whether or not you are living by true wisdom, wisdom that honors God. Also, you will learn some of the characteristics of wisdom-from-above and some characteristics of wisdom-from-below, so that you can make sure that every decision you make is a wise decision. This message will help you make right decisions every single time, on the big decisions and the daily decisions of life. Is That Wise? James 3:13-18. http://www.lpbaptist.org/IsThatWise.mp3

What Did You Say?

Jesus says, "Be perfect, as my Heavenly Father is perfect" (Mt 5:48). James tells us that a person who always says the right things is a perfect person. It is not easy to always say the right thing, and sometimes saying the right thing means saying nothing at all! In this message from James 3:1-12, entitled What Did You Say? you will learn about the goal for our words, the giant that our words become, and the guide for godly words. You will be challenged, encouraged, and equipped with tools to help you talk like Jesus - perfectly, every time. http://www.lpbaptist.org/WhatDidYouSay.mp3

Playing Favorites #Dont

What sin does the Bible equate with murder and adultery? Would you believe it is the sin of favoritism?! Living your life without showing favoritism is a big deal to God. Through Christ, you can overcome any tendencies you might have toward prejudice, discrimination or favoritism towards others. Through Christ, you can truly "love your neighbor as yourself" - all of your neighbors! In James 2:1-13, the Bible teaches us about Playing Favorites #Don't. Allow God's Word to pierce deep into your heart as you listen to this message, so that every thing you think, every word you say, and every action you do reflects a heart that has been changed by God. http://www.lpbaptist.org/PlayingFavoritesDont.mp3

Doers of the Word

God didn't write down His Word for us just so that we can read it, or just so that we can hear it read and explained. He wrote it down for us so that we could do what it says. That way, we will experience the blessings He wants us to have, and others will too. In this message, you will learn what it means to be Doers of the Word. From James 1:22-27, you will learn three practical ways to live out your faith and let God use you to bless others! http://www.lpbaptist.org/DoersOfTheWord.mp3

Idols

Here is the outline from Pastor Jeff Gray's message on Jan 9, 2011. The message did not get recorded, so we wanted to share this outline with you:

Exodus 20:4-6

I. Don't idolize anything.

Idols will :
A) disappoint me.
B) dominate me.
-- 1) Addictions.
-- 2) lose perspective.
C) Deform me. Psalm 115:8. Refer also to Matthew 19:16

II. Worship only God
- Why do people want to make God into a form they can bow down to?
-- A) An attempt to limit God's location
-- B) An attempt to reduce His power and size...this is reversal of Genesis 1:27
-- C) They want to control God

- Benefits of worshipping God only:

-- A) It will delight me. Romans 10:11
-- B) It will deliver me...John 8:32 and 8:36
---- 1) Approval of God not man.
---- 2) Set free from my past because I'm forgiven. Set free in the present because I have new power to conquer sin. Set free in the future because my name is written in the Lambs book of Life.
-- C) Develops me. 2 Cor 3:18

Summary ...what is God like? Col 1:15 and John 14:8. Jesus.
