I Will Build My Church

Pastor Derek and his wife stood literally 30 feet away from the Gates of Hell. No, it wasn't a dream or a vision. It was reality. They were in Israel, at Caesarea Philippi, at the same spot that Jesus took His disciples in the first century to ask them a most important question: "Who do you say that I am??" It was here that Jesus told His disciples (and us!) upon what truth He would build His church. When we consider Jesus' two questions to the disciples on that day, and the responses by the disciples, we realize that each of us must answer that question for ourselves. Because we are constantly being attacked spiritually by the forces of hell - the temptations, deception, division and much, much more. When Jesus talks about building His church, He is talking about building it one person at a time. Will you let Him work in you to overcome everything that hell throws against you? Matthew 16:13-20. The Son's Prayer to the Father

When Jesus prayed to His Heavenly Father on the night before He was betrayed, He prayed for Himself, for His disciples, and for all of those who would believe in Him (including us!). His prayer serves as a model for us. Four specific things He prayed were:

  • "Father, glorify Your Son"
  • "Father, protect your children"
  • "Father, unify your children"
  • "Father, show them your love"
Jesus' prayer teaches us how to pray. In this message, The Son's Prayer to the Father, Pastor Derek is joined by Jeff Gray and Bob Appleton to discuss the life-changing truths of John 17. These truths help us to see deeply into the powerful, strong, loving heart of our Savior. http://www.lpbaptist.org/TheSonsPrayerToTheFather.mp3

Restoration

God is in the business of restoration. He is the one we look to when things need to be put back together. So what do we do when people wander away from the Lord? And what about those who are not even believers in Christ? Do we reject them, put up walls between us and them, judge them, and write them off? Or, do we lovingly reach out to them to help restore their relationship with God and His people? The answer seems obvious. God's Word shows you how. James 5:19-20. Restoration. It Won't Last Forever

When times get tough, it seems that the difficult days will never end. Remember: suffering won't last forever. When times are luxurious, and at seems that the things of the world will always last, remember this: stuff won't last forever. In this message from James 4:1-11, It Won't Last Forever, God's Word helps you to examine yourself, your motives, and your focus to see if you are living life with an eternal perspective. Because things of this world are passing away. As it says in the gospels (KJV), "this too shall pass." http://lpbaptist.org/ItWontLastForever.mp3

Always Talking About Tomorrow...

Some people have a tendency to boast and brag about all the great things that they KNOW they are going to do in the future. Their arrogance and presumption can cause them to actually miss God's will. The Bible gives us guidance on how to keep the right attitude and to live a life that is submitted to God's will, which is the best place to be. Always Talking About Tomorrow... James 4:13-17. http://www.lpbaptist.org/AlwaysTalkingAboutTomorrow.mp3

On a Journey with the LORD

Life is a journey. As a follower of Christ, we are on a lifelong journey with the LORD. In Proverbs 16:9, we read: "A man's heart plans his way, but the LORD determines his steps." How do we make sure our heart is in line with the LORD's heart? And, how does God sovereignly determine our steps, and also speak to us so that we know which way to go? The Good News about Jesus and the Resurrection

When the apostle Paul stood on the hill in Athens to proclaim the good news of Jesus, he was speaking to people with a variety of worldviews. He shocked them when he spoke of Jesus' resurrection. Some ridiculed his words and dismissed him. Some were curious and wanted to hear more. Some believed in Christ and trusted in Jesus as Lord & Savior. How would you respond to Paul's message? How would people you know respond? The Good News about Jesus and the Resurrection. Acts 17:16-34. http://www.lpbaptist.org/TheGoodNewsAboutJesusAndTheResurrection.mp3
