On a Journey with the LORD

Life is a journey. As a follower of Christ, we are on a lifelong journey with the LORD. In Proverbs 16:9, we read: "A man's heart plans his way, but the LORD determines his steps." How do we make sure our heart is in line with the LORD's heart? And, how does God sovereignly determine our steps, and also speak to us so that we know which way to go?
