The Man Who Endures Trials

God has a design in every trial you go through. He never tempts you to sin. But He is constantly at work in your life, allowing you to experience things and learn things and grow. Bragging Rights

Everyone is tempted to brag and boast. People brag about their sports teams, their summer vacations, everything. While some people brag about their situation being the best, others brag about theirs being the worst. In James 1:9-11, we read about how the poor and the rich should respond to their situations of life. And, we learn what it is OK to boast about. Most of all, we learn how a relationship with Christ changes everything.
Bragging Rights. You may not ever brag the same way again. http://www.lpbaptist.org/BraggingRights.mp3

Greetings!

How a person says "hello" can tell you a lot about them: their cultural background, their personality, what's important to them. In James 1:1, James sends Greetings! to a group of people who are scattered around the world. The words he sends them are still encouraging for us to hear today. In this message, you will learn how we know which James wrote the Letter of James in the Bible (the answer may surprise you). You will learn how a letter written to twelve tribes of people dispersed from a region still applies to us today. You will also learn three essential criteria that the early churches used to determine which books should or should not be included in the Bible. Finally, you will learn at least three ways to practically apply the first verse of James' letter to your life today, so that your greetings show that you are a follower of Christ. http://www.lpbaptist.org/greetings.mp3

Did Jesus Believe In Ghosts?

In our world today, many people are fascinated with ghosts, spirits and paranormal activity. The same was true in the days Jesus walked the earth. Fascination with ghosts and spirits can lead a person to live in fear, distraction, or danger. The thief comes to steal, kill, and destroy, but Jesus comes to give us life - abundant and everlasting! In this message, we examine key Bible passages to understand what the Bible teaches about this controversial subject of ghosts. Connect, Encourage and Build Up

In 1 Thessalonians 5:11, the apostle Paul encourages the believers to continue to encourage and build one another up in their faith, just as they had already been doing. We believe that is what God wants Christians to do for each other, to encourage each other and build each other up in the faith. We are beginning community groups called Connect Groups to help people to connect with God, connect with each other, and connect with their community. But, whether or not you are part of a Connect Group, we want you to hear what the Bible says about how we as Christians should Connect, Encourage and Build Up each other in the faith. http://www.lpbaptist.org/ConnectEncourageAndBuildUp.mp3

[Note: on the Sunday that this message was delivered we arranged the sanctuary chairs into many small groups so that at certain points during the sermon the groups would read Scriptures and discuss them as a group. You may notice references to that as you listen to this message. It was a really powerful day of all of those who were in attendance digging into and interacting with the Word of God. However, we have removed the "group discussions" time from the sermon to help this podcast flow more smoothly. As they say, "You just had to be there!"]

Great Tribulation

Difficulties, suffering and tribulation are part of life on earth. Yet Jesus says, "In this world you will have trouble, but take heart - I have overcome the world!" As you examine first century history in Jerusalem, you see that some of Jesus' first followers faced great tribulation when Jerusalem and the temple were destroyed by the Romans in AD 70. And, when you read many of the apocalyptic books of the Bible, you will see descriptions of the great tribulation that is to come during the end times. Jesus' words to us in Matthew 24:15-31 give you the tools you need to understand how people in AD 70 dealt with their great tribulation, how followers of Christ will deal with the great tribulation of the end times, and how you can face the great tribulation that comes into your life. For almost 2000 years, Christians have lived with the understanding that Jesus could return at any moment. Surely now we are closer to His return than at any point in human history. When people look to the Bible for clues about the end times, there is much to learn. In this message The End Times: What To Watch For, we examine Matthew 24:4-14 to learn ten things Jesus says that we should watch for. Learning these things will help you be ready for His return, and will help you see the urgency of getting the good news of Jesus to people around the world. Big Questions About The End Times

When you think about the End Times, what pictures come to mind? Beasts, plagues, wars, Armageddon? Or maybe crowns, heaven, victory dinners, celebrations? Throughout the Bible, references are made to the End Times. In Matthew 24, we hear from the lips of Jesus Himself, as He teaches His followers about the End Times. Let's learn from Him. In Matthew 24:1-3, we see some Big Questions About The End Times. Listen here: http://www.lpbaptist.org/BigQuestionsAboutTheEndTimes.mp3

Increasing in Christ

Lifelong goal: to be like Christ in every way. He is the perfect example for us to follow, and we empowers us to think like Him, to act like Him, to love like Him, to serve like Him, and more. It is a lifelong pursuit of Increasing in Christ. From Philippians 4:11 and other Scriptures, LPBC elder Bob Appleton shares an important message from God's Word and practical wisdom for all believers. Consider Others More Than Yourselves

In Philippians 2:3-5, we learn from the apostle Paul that it is very Christ-like to consider others more than ourselves. LPBC Youth Pastor Ryan Schneider led a group of teens and young adults on a week long mission trip to serve others and share Christ in Pennsylvania in the summer of 2010. In this message Consider Others More Than Yourselves, he shares from God's Word about how the Generation Youth Ministry mission team did just that, and how you can too. Testimonies from team members are included in this podcast. Listen here: http://www.lpbaptist.org/ConsiderOthers.mp3

Faith to Make Hard Choices

At a point in his life, Moses had to choose to follow God. He continually chose to follow God rather than to enjoy the short-lived pleasures of sin. When we have faith in God, we realize that our choices bring consequences. We realize that with God's help we can choose - every time! - to follow Jesus. In this message Faith to Make Hard Choices from Hebrews 11:24-26, you will learn two important principles of faith that will equip you to make the right choices, even when the decision is not easy to make. http://www.lpbaptist.org/HardChoices.mp3

Faith Requires You To Do Something

In Hebrews 11:23, Moses' parents show incredible faith of God. They choose faith over fear. Their decision changed not just the life of one baby boy, but ultimately the fate of a nation. Faith Requires You To Do Something. You can't just say you have faith in God if you never obey His commands. In this message, you will see what it was that led Moses' parents to make such a courageous step of faith. Their obedience will inspire you. And you will see how your faith can be that strong too as you realize what God wants you to do. http://www.lpbaptist.org/DoSomething.mp3

The Healer

Jesus is the Great Healer. The Bible tells us in Psalm 103:3 that the Lord is the one who forgives all our sin and heals all our diseases. Sometimes He works through medicine, and sometimes He works through miracles, but you can be assured that when healing takes place, the Lord is the one who brings the healing. In the gospels, we read a story of how a man comes to Jesus asking for healing for his dying 12-yr-old daughter, and how a woman who has been struggling with an illness for 12 years interrupts Jesus on the way to the man's house. What Jesus does is amazing.

But, does Jesus still heal today? If so, how do we receive this healing? And what about emotional, mental, physical, and spiritual healing - can He do all of that? Also, what about those times when it seems like Jesus is not bringing healing? What about people we pray for who don't receive healing? Is that a sign of lack of faith on someone's part? These and other questions are answered in this message The Healer, from Matthew 9:18-26 (and other select passages). http://www.lpbaptist.org/TheHealer.mp3

America, Bless God

God has blessed America. We have resources beyond measure. Our country was founded upon laws that are in line with God's Word. We have freedom to worship, to speak our mind freely, and more. But, in many ways our nation has turned our back on God. We need to repent and return to the Lord. Rather than saying, "God bless America" we need to say, "America, bless God." From Psalm 67, this message demonstrates how every nation of the world needs to look to God and to bless God, and how each person needs to look to God for salvation. Hands, Hearts, Hypocrites & Honor

In Matthew 15:1-9, Jesus and His disciples are criticized with a question by some religious leaders for the way they (didn't) wash their hands! Jesus, who is never caught by surprise, answered their criticizing question with a heart-exposing question back to them. Walking With God - On Water?!

When you think about following Christ, what does that walk look like to you? Does it include the ability to walk on water?? No Greater Love

Love is a curious thing. We all recognize love when we see it, can't we? But love can be elusive, and confusing. And everyone has an opinion on what true love is. Media, families, couples, churches all have ways of describing love. So how do you know what true love is? Can the Bible help us with this? YES. In John 15:9-17, we learn much about love. True love is rooted in relationship, it flows from your relationship with God. And Jesus shows us how to show love to others. In this passage, we see at least four examples of how Jesus shows love. No Greater Love. Learn from the best - Jesus. Listen here: http://www.lpbaptist.org/NoGreaterLove.mp3.

My Heart Leaps For Joy!

What makes your heart leap for joy? As David writes in Psalm 28, there are times that it seems like God is silent when we pray to Him. There are times that we wonder if He hears the sounds we make in the sanctuary as we cry out to Him. Life can be tough. Situations don't always seem to work out the way we want them to. However, if we trust in the LORD, we will see that He is the one who is our strength & shield. David learned how to say, "My Heart Leaps For Joy!" You can too. Your songs will be different, you will know who is your Savior, and the LORD will be your Shepherd. Listen here: http://www.lpbaptist.org/MyHeartLeapsForJoy.mp3
